Are you using the right wood on your stove?
In order to ensure you are using your wood burning stove effectively and efficiently it’s important that you are using the right wood.
Wood should be seasoned – and that means it should have been left to dry so that it has a moisture content that is below 20% - this also ensures it’s better for the environment. If the wood still has a lot of moisture the heat energy is wasted in burning off the moisture and it can also be damaging to your flue. Well-seasoned logs should be dark and cracked at the end – a sure sign they are dry.
Ash, beech or birch are great burners but the different types of wood available have different qualities. Pine is a soft wood that has shorter burning while a hard wood such as oak burn slower.
The size of wood is also important to the stove’s efficiency and you can find this in the instructions that come with your product, however, if in doubt, feel free to ask one of our expert staff who are always happy to help.
Finally, try to ensure you find a supplier that sources wood from well-managed woodlands.
